The Mask

"I show you the mask because you need me to be strong,
I show you the mask to act like nothing is wrong.
The mask is there to serve as my shield,
to keep me from having to show what I feel.
As time goes by the mask becomes normal,
but while the outside is calm inside is turmoil.
The mask makes me numb to the emotion and pain,
the fear, the anger and the feelings of shame.
I know that you love me no matter what,
but lately these days this mask is my crutch.
I have to remove it and show what's inside,
I don't want to wear it til the day that I die."
Ronald Boos Jr 2010

This is to my family and friends that have helped me without even knowing it. The poem is not very good but it is a description of the mindset that I have been able to leave behind me over the past two years with all of your help. I'm extremely grateful to you all for pulling me through.

The poem is beautiful, and well written. It is true that I love you "no matter what". I hope that we continue to help you even if it is in blind faith that we are helping. I am proud of the man you have become and I have always been proud of you. You were my hero long before you became a Marine, or a man. I hope you know how much I love you.

Well, I think I made things worse in recent years, but I am more grateful than you know for telling me I did any good. You should know by now, you don't have to wear a mask with me. Take it off and be you. I love you as you are. I may not understand, but I always support and love you. Thank you for not blocking me out. If anyone in my life should, it is you. But you don't. We are best friends. We love our soulmates, but nothing compares to us. It's you and me....against the world. Never forget...You and Me.

Like I said, this is a phase of my life that I have moved on from. This is just a picture of what I was going through. I sat down today and didn't plan on writing anything and then suddenly this came pouring out in the span of a couple of minutes. I love you both. You and Me Kim ;-)

That is one of the most beautiful poems I have ever read! I can tell it came from the heart...where all good writing should originate!

Thank you for accepting Bear (my blog name for my hubby) and I into your life just because your sister loves us!

You are an amazing man!

Right, I understood that :) I was just encouraging you to never wear it with me, you don't need to.
